On October 18, 2024 Midstate Arc announced a name change and rebrand for their property, the Assistive Technology Training Center (ATECH). The organization is now known as Living Without Limits, and will include the Assistive Technology Training Academy and the associated professional conference, Tech Tools For Life, a full-service Remote Supports Service, a lending library of assistive technology tools, and a community membership program.

The name change was accompanied by a new logo and updated tagline: “Redefining Independence With Technology.”

Our Organization History

Originally founded in 2017, the organization was formed as an initiative of MidState Arc, an organization serving individuals with barriers to independent living for over 70 years, Futures Inc., an innovative agency that develops and implements technological supports for individuals with disabilities, and The New England Society of Innovation and Technology (NESIT), a makerspace where skilled designers and craftspeople create solutions to specific challenges when existing devices do not meet individual needs.

Expanding upon the theme of providing people with disabilities with technologies to help them live more independently, Living Without Limits blends service and technology in an all-encompassing way. The new organization brings together a full suite of services for individuals, families, professional care-givers, Case Workers, and direct-service providing agencies.

Services include detailed, person-centered Assessments, Consulting for both individual care and agency support, Remote Support Services, Professional Development, an Assistive Technology Center, training opportunities for direct care personnel, a Technology Lending Library for members, and an annual conference that highlights innovations in assistive technologies.

What assistive technology is best for your loved one?

“For nearly a decade we have been a trusted partner in providing independent living supports for older adults and people living with disabilities. Our goal is to use both service and technology to provide safety and support, granting the highest level of independent living and accessibility for those who need it,” said Living Without Limits founder and Executive Director, Pam Fields.

“We are building today for a more independent tomorrow. We are thrilled to bring all of these services under one roof, and are very proud to be a leader in the State of Connecticut’s efforts to advance independent living. Working on all levels with individuals, families, and professional agencies, we are pioneering new programs and pathways of independence.”
